LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st READING JEREMIAH 20:7-9

(Power of God’s Word)

Jeremiah admits that he has become a mockery for the Lord. He is derided and reproached, but he cannot help but speak the word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps 63

(Thirsting for God)

My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.

2nd READING ROMANS 12:1-2

(A Living Sacrifice)

Paul recommends sacrifice, to offer our bodies as a sacrifice to the Lord. We must ignore the standards of the world and become renewed in spirit to be pleasing to God.

THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW 16:21-27

(Taking Up the Cross)

Jesus foretells his suffering, Passion, and Death. All those who wish to follow Jesus must take up their cross.

AMERICAN MARTYRS

OCIA classes will start on Monday, September 14th at 6:00 p.m. in the parish hall. If you know someone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith (no pressure to join the church), please have them contact Cindy Light @ 812-595-3673.  All parishioners are invited to attend also – come support those learning about our faith!  The program we will use this year is a new program so, if you've attended in the past, consider attending again. WE NEED ALTAR SERVERS!  If your child has made 1st Communion, please talk to them about becoming server.  Again, contact Cindy Light to sign up for a training.

American Martyrs Annual Family Picnic
Our next Family Social is the annual picnic, scheduled for Sunday, September 20 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall. This event is for members of both St. Patrick and American Martyrs Parishes to enjoy food and fellowship. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Please bring your favorite picnic dish to share.
