The 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st READING KINGS 3:5, 7-12

(The Gift of Understanding)

Solomon prays for wisdom to lead the people of God. God is pleased that Solomon asked above all else to know right from wrong. God promises him, wisdom and understanding that will be unequaled either in times past or in the future.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps 119

(The Lord’s Decrees)

“Lord, I Love Your Commands.”

2nd READING ROMANS 8:28-30

(All Things Work for Good)

God makes all his works of creation fit into his divine plan. He planned to share the image of his Son with us so that we might be justified and thereby enter into eternal glory.

THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW 13:44-52

(The Kingdom of God)

Jesus compares the value of the Kingdom of God to a hidden treasure, to a most valuable pearl, to a dragnet. It is beyond human comprehension. In the end, God's angels will sort out those who have lived good lives and unrepentant sinners.

AMERICAN MARTYRS EVENTS & NEEDS

Religious education classes, for Preschool (age 4 by July 1st) through high school, will begin on Sunday, August 9th. Registration forms have been mailed to everyone I have addresses for.  If you need a registration form, please contact Cindy Light 812-595-3673.  There is no cost for the classes, and we meet after mass on Sunday mornings.

OCIA classes will start in September.  If you know someone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith (no pressure to join the church), please have them contact Cindy Light @ 812-595-3673.  All parishioners are invited to attend also - come support those learning about our faith!  The program we will use this year is a new program so, if you've attended in the past, consider attending again.

WE NEED ALTAR SERVERS!  If your child has made 1st Communion, please talk to them about becoming a server.  Again, contact Cindy Light to sign up for a training.

There will be Eucharistic Adoration on Saturday, August 1st. Starting at 4:00 p.m., followed by Rosary at 4:30 p.m., and Mass at 5:00 p.m.

INTERCESSION PRAYERS

For the Church: that we may place a supreme value on seeking the reign of God and utilize all our talents to deepen our relationship with God.

For confidence in God’s love for each of us: that we may rely upon God’s generous love to sustain us and bring good out of all the experiences of our lives.

For Wisdom: that we may be able to resist the allure of advertisements that offer easy and quick solutions to life’s problems and invite the Holy Spirit to lead us into a deeper experience of God’s providence.

For the Special Intentions of: Pope Leo XIV,

 Archbishop Thompson, and Father Brian.

For the healing all who are sick. Including Marcy Donohue, Matthew Cullins, Jim Libka, Jane Zatonski, & Mary Smith. That God will answer all prayer requests & help all who are sick.

For all who have died and for all other Mass intentions this                    weekend: Peggy Enteman, Robyn Johnson & Family,
& John Nelson. May they share in the resurrection.
