The 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
1st READING WISDOM 2:12, 17-20 (The Just Are Persecuted) The wicked detest the just one because the person of God disturbs their conscience. They are anxious to do away with the good, saying that God will care for them if they are really His.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM 54 (God Our Helper) The Lord upholds my life
2nd READING JAMES 3:16-4:3 (Avoiding Conflicts) Wisdom begets innocence. It is peace-loving, kind, docile, impartial,
THE GOSPEL OF MARK 9:30-37 (Service of Others) Jesus tells his trusted disciples of his forthcoming sufferings, death, and resurrection. Then he tells the Twelve about humility. To rank first, one must remain the last and be the servant of all.
