                                  SOME THOUGHTS ON TODAY’S GOSPEL

James and John wanted to have the places of honor for themselves. How often even the followers of Jesus get caught up seeking honors, titles and insignia, thinking that in this way they are honoring God! Jesus was interested rather in their willingness to drink the same chalice he was going to drink. We ask for the grace to be able to drink the chalice when it is offered to us, and not to be seduced by the attractions of prestige.

The 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st READING ISAIAH 53:10-11

(The Servant of Yahweh)

The suffering servant speaks of his life as a sin offering that his people may prosper enjoying a long life. Through his suffering he will bear the guilt of many.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM 33

(Trust In God)

Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you.

2nd READING HEBREWS 4:14-16

(Jesus Our High Priest)

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the high priest who shares all our weaknesses except sin. His mercy comes to all who seek it.

THE GOSPEL OF MARK 10:35-45

(Greatness in Serving)

James & John request a special honor in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus reminds them and the other ten that anyone who aspires to greatness must be prepared to serve first.

Trails of Faith New Event

Thanks for Father Steve Schaftlein's invitation to the Season of Creation celebration out at his beautiful home in September. A great time was had by all. And he talked about how we are all part of creation. We will be getting together once more after mass at Saint Patrick’s on November 3rd at Fr. Steve Schaftlein's place -5058 East Nicholson Hollow Rd., Salem IN  47167. Hotdogs, buns, Ketchup, Mustard and water will be provided. Dress for the weather. Bring chairs.  Pitch in if you like, but not necessary. Father will provide the wood, the fire pit and lead the hike! (NOTE: the trails are NOT stroller friendly for those with small children) St Patrick will provide the hot dogs, buns, ketchup, mustard and water, so if you all can come (American Martyrs too) We need to know numbers so please RSVP to Dave 812-569-1764 (call or text) or on Facebook so we will know how much food is needed.
