SOME THOUGHTS ON TODAY’S GOSPEL                            The man who had great wealth found sadness in his wealth. Somehow the Lord's invitation to give away and to share threatened him badly. Jesus knows the way possessions and wealth and comforts can tie us down. He knows that his compassion makes up for much human weakness. We offer to the Lord in prayer all we are and all we have, asking for help in using wisely what we possess, and live easily without what we might like to possess but cannot.

The 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
LITURGY OF THE WORD

(Riches of Wisdom)
To what can wisdom be compared in value? She is above all desires because in her all good things are found – countless riches.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM 90
(Filled with God’s Love)
Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!

2nd READING HEBREWS 4:12-13
(God’s Living Word)
God’s word is penetrating and sharp. Nothing is hidden from God, and all must render an account to him.

THE GOSPEL OF MARK 10:17-30
(All for God)
A rich man asks Jesus what he must do
to be saved. Jesus answers – keep the commandments. The man says that he does. One thing more, then, Jesus lovingly continues – sell what you have and give to the poor. The man left. Jesus added how hard it is
for a rich person to get to heaven.
