The Baptism of the Lord

LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st READING ISAIAH 42:1-4, 6-7

(Works of The Messiah)

The Prophet Isaiah sees the spirit upon the Lord’s servant who will proclaim

the “good news” to the poor, freedom to prisoners, and joy to those in sorrow.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 29

(Peace for God’s People)

The Lord will bless his people with peace.

2nd READING ACTS 10:34-38

(Anointed To Do Good)

God anointed Jesus the Savior with the Holy Spirit and power. Jesus is the Lord

of all, and he brought healing to all who were in the grip of the devil.

THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW 3: 13-17

(Beloved Son)

John objected to baptizing Jesus since he recognized the Messiah. Jesus insisted,  and the heavens opened showing God’s favor.  God also identified his Son, Jesus.
