LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st READING KINGS 19:9a, 11-13a

(Coming of the Lord)

The Lord tells Elijah to await him on the mountain. Elijah’s faith is tried as he witnesses a devasting wind, an earthquake, and a fire. After these, the Lord speaks to Elijah in a tiny whispering sound.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps 85

(Truth and Justice)

“Lord let us see your kindness,

and grant us your salvation.”

2nd READING ROMANS 9:1-5

(Blessed Be God)

Paul admits that grief is in his heart. He would even accept separation from Jesus if it would help his brothers and sisters who have been privileged to know the revelation of God through the ages. Blessed be God forever.

THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW 14: 22-23

(Jesus Walks on Water)

Jesus feeds the crowds and then withdraws to pray. His disciples want to cross the lake, but a threatening storm arises. Jesus appears and Peter gets out of the boat to walk to him, but because Peter doubts, he begins to sink. Jesus saves him and admonishes him for his little faith. Then Jesus calms the storm.

AMERICAN MARTYRS

Religious education classes, for Preschool (age 4 by July 1st) through high school, will begin this Sunday, August 9th.  Registration forms have been mailed to everyone I have addresses for.  If you need a registration form, please contact Cindy Light 812-595-3673.  There is no cost for the classes, and we meet after mass on Sunday mornings.

OCIA classes will start in September.  If you know someone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith (no pressure to join the church), please have them contact Cindy Light @ 812-595-3673.  All parishioners are invited to attend also - come support those learning about our faith!  The program we will use this year is a new program so, if you've attended in the past, consider attending again.

WE NEED ALTAR SERVERS!  If your child has made 1st Communion, please talk to them about becoming a server.  Again, contact Cindy Light to sign up for a training.

AMERICAN MARTYRS Food Collection

Please only donate immediately edible food in the box and do not leave food of any kind outside the box. All cans and bags must be within the expiration dates. You may also leave sealed cans and bags that are not expired at the parish office. These will be taken to the Clearinghouse by Ed Cozart or Fay Obergfell. Thanks.

INTERCESSION PRAYERS

For the Church, that our faith may not waver when storms and trials surround us, and that we may always look to Christ for courage and rescue.

For all who feel lost, afraid, or sinking in doubt, that they may hear Jesus calling out to them with the words "Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid," and feel his steady hand lifting them up.

For our local community and families, that we may learn to seek God not only in times of loud crisis, but also in the quiet, gentle whispers of daily life.

For the Special Intentions of: Pope Leo XIV, Archbishop Thompson, and Father Brian.

For the healing all who are sick. That God will answer all prayer requests & help all who are sick.

For all who have died and for all other Mass intentions this weekend: Terry Stout, Jim Barrett, & Peggy Enteman. May they share in the resurrection.

3. Guide my thoughts, words, and decisions.

4. Protect my family and everyone connected to me.

5. Give me strength for whatever this month brings.
