                                    SOME THOUGHTS ON TODAY’S GOSPEL

Jesus sent his disciples to preach his kingdom with little other than their dependency on him and on God. They were always pilgrims, with the sandals of the wanderer. Following Jesus means becoming a bit of a wanderer, both interiorly and, perhaps, externally. In our relationship with him and in our knowledge of him we are never grounded and stuck but are always on the move into new love and new knowledge. This is his gift to us, not just our achievement.

The message of the Lord is to travel light in the journey of life. Wealth, desire for recognition and personal pride can stunt our desire for God and our freedom to love and to do good. We are just passing through our world for a short time; Jesus advises us to make the most of it for ourselves and for others.

The 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st READING AMOS 7:12-15

(God Makes A Prophet)

Amos writes how he was chosen by God to Go out and prophesy to the people of Israel.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM 85

(The Lord’s Salvation)

Lord, let us see your kindness and grant us your salvation.

2nd READING EPHESIANS 1:3-14

(Christ’s Headship)

God chose his followers to be holy, blameless, and filled with love – to be his adopted children in Jesus. In Jesus and through the seal of the Holy Spirit, full redemption shall come to humankind.

THE GOSPEL OF MARK 6:7-13

(Spreading the Gospel)

Jesus sent out the Twelve, instructing them to take only a walking stick and to preach the gospel. If they were refused a listening ear, they should leave the locality. They worked many miracles

NEWS & EVENTS

July, Month of the Eucharist

The month of July will be designated as the ‘Month of the Eucharist’. This will be a wonderful time to reflect on the importance of the Holy Eucharist to us as Catholics during Adoration on Saturdays. Benediction services will be held after all weekend Masses during the month. Also, just a friendly reminder to be courteous on Saturdays for those spending time in prayer and reflection during Adoration and refrain from conversation during this time.

AMERICAN MARTYRS

Father Stephen Banet will be filling in at Mass at American Martyrs on Saturday, July 20th. Father Santhosh will be at Salem at that time for the Kaiser/Underwood wedding.

AMERICAN MARTYRS

A BIG “thank you” to Brenda Moyna for her work cleaning out and planting flowers in Mary's grotto.
