The Ascension of the Lord

LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st READING Acts 1:12-14

(Constant Prayer)

After the Ascension, the Apostles returned to pray in the upper room at Jerusalem. Mary and some other women were with them. They prayed continuously for 9 days.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM 27

(The House of the Lord)

I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord and the land of the living.

2nd READING 1st LETTER OF SAINT PETER 4:13-16

(Joy in Suffering)

We should rejoice in sharing in the suffering of Jesus; for this we should not be ashamed. Beware, however, not to violate the rights of others.

THE GOSPEL OF JOHN 17:1-11a

(Eternal Life)

Jesus prays to his Father, noting that the work given him is finished. The Father is known on earth. Jesus prays for his Apostles to whom he entrusted the good news of salvation.
