SOME THOUGHTS ON TODAY’S GOSPEL                          Thomas the doubter is the patron saint of so many of us. When it comes to the supernatural and spiritual, we need to be skeptical. Jesus respected Thomas's doubts and guided his fingers into the wounds. Lord, you call us blessed because we believe without the evidence of our senses. You matter more to us than what we can see, hear, touch or smell; but there are times when we falter. Lord, we believe. Help our unbelief. We listen to Jesus speak to us, 'Peace be with you.' we bring before him those aspects of our lives most in need of peace and hear him say again, 'Peace be with you.' Jesus speaks of peace but shows his hand and his feet: he reminds us that there is a cost to being a presence of peace in the world.

Pentecost Sunday

LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st READING ACTS 2: 1-11

(Coming of the Spirit)

On this day the Holy Spirit in fiery tongues descended upon the Apostles and the Mother of Jesus. Today the law of grace and purification from sin was announced. Three Thousand were baptized.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 104

(Renewal by the Spirit)

“Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew

the face of the Earth.”

2nd READING

Corinthians 12: 3b-7, 12-13

(Grace of the Spirit)

No one can confess the divinity and sovereignty of Jesus unless inspired by the Holy Spirit. Different gifts and ministries

are given but all for the one body with Jesus.

The Gospel of John 20: 19-23

(Christ Imparts the Spirit

Jesus breathes on the disciples to indicate the conferring of the              Holy Spirit. Here we see the origin of power over sin, the Sacrament of Penance. This shows the power of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of human beings.
