St. Luke’s is the Gospel too, which more than the others, gives a privileged place to the poor, and the outcast, and sinners. The Gospel of St. Luke is the Gospel, beyond all others, of the gentleness and compassion of Jesus; it’s also the Gospel of the Holy Spirit, of prayer, of joy, and of the mission to the gentiles. Like St. Paul, whose companion and disciple he was, Luke was not a personal eyewitness of the life of Jesus. But he knew plenty of people who were, and his faith was one with theirs: the faith of the Catholic Church. The 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time 1st READING NEHEMIAH 8: 2-4a, 5-6, 8-10 (God’s Law) The people of God return to their homeland, rebuild the temple, and
now listen to the proclamation of the law of God.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM 19 (Spirit and Life) Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life.
2nd READING CORINTHIANS 12:12-30 (One Body) By Baptism we begin to become Christians, Christ unites himself to us, and we must grow with him.
THE GOSPEL OF LUKE 1:1-4; 4:14-21 (Proclaiming the Good News) Jesus proclaims the “good news” to the poor and announces the fulfillment of the prophetic vision of Isaiah.
SCRIP SCRIP orders are due on the first weekend of every month. Order forms are located at the entrances.
PRAYER REQUESTS Please email any prayer requests to Kathy Karmire (karmire54@gmail.com) While in the Church…… Be silent. Be thoughtful. Be reverent. This is God's house. Before Mass, speak to God. During Mass, let God speak to you. After Mass, speak to one another. The Presentation of The Lord Protection For the Unborn January 22 was the day of prayer for the legal protection of the unborn. Indiana will have their walk for Life on that day. Our state is one in which the legislation has passed to protect the unborn legally. Our neighboring state, Illinois, has gone in the opposite direction. Prayers for the protection of the unborn are still needed. Indiana's motto of "Love them both” to me is a call to provide help to parents so that they have the ability to give their children life. Our Sunday School classes are praying the Prolife Rosary this week. We invite the parish to join us not only in prayers for babies, but for donation for our local pregnancy center, Choices. We will collect in the Narthex from February 2nd through February 16th. A list of needs will be in the bulletin.
