They inform us about who Jesus is, and about the purpose of his mission. So, in the Cana story, for example, Jesus replaces the water prescribed for Jewish purifications with more than one hundred and twenty gallons of wine! According to the Jewish Scriptures, when the Messiah comes there shall be an abundance of new wine, a symbol for God's abundant goodness towards his people. That Jesus turns so much water into the best of wines is a ‘sign' that he is in fact the long-awaited Messiah. The 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (God’s Love for His People)
“Zion,” “Jerusalem,” is the people of God and God describes his love and concern for us in terms of the joy of a bridegroom.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM 96
(Proclaim God’s Deeds)
Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations.
2nd READING CORINTHIANS 12:4-11
(Gifts of the Holy Spirit)
The gifts of God come from the same Spirit. The gifts are diverse, but the Spirit is one; and the gifts are given to unite, not separate us.
THE GOSPEL OF JOHN 2:1-11
(Jesus reveals His Glory)
Christ the Lord reveals his glory, and the kingdom of God is at hand
