Some Thoughts On Today's Gospel
We have no portrait of you, Lord, but in the Beatitudes, you show us your interior landscape, the source of your joy. This is not a set of regulations, but a vision of where true happiness lies.
Jesus lived every one of the ‘blesseds’. As we list them, notice how he might have lived them himself. He was merciful, pure in heart (single-minded), a peacemaker. All the others find space in his life. We should note them as we read the gospel and in our prayers. Jesus knew each of the Beatitudes from the inside out. He knew just where the blessing and presence of God may be found.

The 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

LITURGY OF THE WORD
1st READING ZEPHANIAH 2:3; 3:12-13
(Seek the Lord)
The Lord is to be found among a people who are humble and lowly. Those who are humble seek after God. They shall find repose in Him.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM 146
(Bounty of the Lord)
“Blessed are the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs!”

2nd READING 1 CORINTHIANS1:26-31
(Boast in the Lord)
Contrary to worldly standards, God chooses those who are weak, lowborn and despised. To these God has given his own Son, Jesus, for sanctification and redemption.

THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW 5:1-12a
(A New Teaching)
Jesus says that the poor in spirit, the sorrowing, those thirsting for holiness, the merciful, the peacemakers, and those who suffer for holiness’ sake are “blessed” - their reward awaits them in heaven.

MAKE–A–WISH INDIANA
Leah Covert with Make-A-Wish support is looking for some volunteers with a project for a playset for a child in Scottsburg.  If any of our SLP Clubs are interested in helping, we would appreciate your support as well! Thanks in advance!!
The Message from Leah……  My name is Leah Covert, and I am the Volunteer Engagement Specialist for Make-A-Wish in Indiana. We have a wish kid who lives in Scottsburg, IN, who wished for a play-set, and we’ve had a hard time finding volunteers to help us prepare the space for the play-set. The preparation is typically removing the grass, framing out a rectangle with timbers, and putting down mulch. We pay for all of the supplies but need help with the labor. Kiwanis Clubs around the state have been a ton of help on project wishes, so I wanted to reach out to see if you think your club would be able to help us with this wish. If you think it’s a possibility, please feel free to reach out via email or phone, 317-522-4081.  Thank you!
